Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center
Ironhide Construction completed the erection of a pre-engineered metal building — the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s new tennis complex — the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. The Dillon Tennis Center, part of a larger $20.4 million soccer and tennis project, is located near the corner of 14th Street and Cornhusker Highway.
Erection time for the 175-ft. clear span Chief building took about three-and-a-half months. Cranes were required to create 60-ft. bays in the long-span building. A Purlin Glide insulation system was installed that provides high R-value insulation, as well as a fall prevention system.
The Dillon Tennis Center was available for spring practice and to start the 2015-16 season. In a press release, Nebraska Executive Associate Athletic Director Marc Boehm said, “We’re proud to see student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans move to new, well-thought-out homes that will improve recruiting numbers, heighten fan interest and enhance the game-day experiences in both sports for generations to come.”
